I'm back!

Post by Smoke_Jaguar » Fri May 29, 2015 10:59 pm

Looks like the site has undergone a few remodels and the like, but I finally got my account to reset after almost a decade. Now to see if anyone else is alive!

Yup, there are a few of us still hanging around or lying under the dust.

Welcome back.

Looks like a lot has stagnated in the past couple of years, but good to see familiar faces.

That is mostly due to RL with everyone. I was rear-ended at the end of January which put much of what I was doing on hold.

I've got stuff I need to post too, but I really need to find a different webhost for my site since the current one seems to be permanently down.

I've got my 200 ton Cave Bears revamped to the official Super Heavy 'Mech rules.
I've got a 'Mech scale dropship that I'm getting finished.
I really need to finish my Demolishers company that I was working on when the accident happened, etc, etc.

At least I finished my second A.S. degree with straight "A"s.

Heh, killing tons of time hacking MWO currently, almost have a private server running for it to avoid the free to play jive.

I gave up on MWO.

Now it is going through MMO Balancing Hell which just drives it away further from what Battletech is.

But hey, at least my wife plays now.

Yeah, the triple allocation 40% improvement heatsinks and crap like that, that's insane. Not to mention the crapshow they turned the Nova into. My favorite mech now has torso twist for some insane reason and is about 50% taller. Still, they somehow did that without adding any weight.

Good to read you again! Welcome back.

I'm thanking myself for not going the MWO route, I was sorely tempted but I just do not have the time to spend playing an online game.

I have, however, played several BT board games over the past year. That was great! Amazing how much I forgot and how many rules have been tweaked since I last played. Ah well, it was good to play again.

AMS is actually worth keeping now that it doesn't chew up all the ammo in one or two turns.

I just keep forgetting to use it

Yeah, AMS is quite handy when actually used. Been messing around a bit with tabletop some more and did a bit of hacking with the old clickies. Creative use of reverse casting or gutting them to make metal copies, or just outright utilizing the plastic itself.

I am also working on a system using the MechCommander 2 source code for a hybrid tabletop/multiplayer game setup. Years back when people were discussing using VGA projectors for dynamic maps, I started to get inspired.

Nice to see ya are kicking around here as well. Looks like the video gaming forums are almost stagnant. Maybe I should kick up some dust around there.

The downside, asides from MWO, the Battletech/MechWarrior franchise has been pillaged and left for dead as of late. It's a shame MW5 had to turn into a pay2win fiasco.

It should have been done just like the rest which had a stand alone campaign with a proper training course and multiplayer support, but no, they had to milk the players and shun the veterans by forcing us to play with a bunch of hyperactive kids while hamstringing players that don't use teamspeak/ventrilo.

everyone's got to make a $.

But there are better ways of doing it than what we've seen recently.

Damn straight! I am sick of how online and mobile gaming has gone. I thought buying miniatures was sucking my disposable income out of my pocket; gaming has become much, much worse.

Thankfully the new game engine has a lot to offer, the downside is that it is completely dependent on the servers of the current publisher. I am slowly stripping away at what I can and breaking down level formats and other things to allow heavy modding, new maps and possibly even a new shell. Once I have a good grasp on what is needed, I plan on dumping it into the public domain. Hopefully it will just be way too much for them to change and they will let it ride.
